Please ensure that you bring all necessary documents specified below to your appointment at the Honorary consulate in Accra. The same documentation is required regardless of whether you have had a Swedish passport previously or not.
You can book a time within three months. The temporary passport application will be forwarded to the Embassy of Sweden in Abuja with DHL and will be sent back when ready. Noramlly this takes one week. will be issued at the time of application. Please be in time for the appointment, if delayed more than 30 minutes we can’t guarantee that we can receive you.
Please, note that all documents must be in original.
- Make sure that you have a Swedish ID number or a coordination number. You need this to be able to apply for a Swedish temporary passport.
- Book an appointment by sending an email to the Honorary consulate in Accra
- Complete the application form, include two (2) newly taken passport photos.

- Complete and print the form "Verification of Swedish Citizenship".
Note that it is important that the application form has been completely filled out. If there is something in the application form that you do not understand, please ask someone for help before coming to your booked appointment.

- Check with the Swedish Tax Agency that the registered personal information is correct: Population registration certificate (Extract of the population register) | Skatteverket
Passports will be issued in the name that is registered in the population register.
- If you have another citizenship than Swedish citizenship, we need to see the national passport or other proof of that. The passport authority might want to see proof that you have not become a citizen in a country where you have been living previously.
- If you have never lived in Sweden, you need to bring a birth certificate containing the names of both parents.
- Bring your current passport. If your current passport has expired you will need to bring a valid Swedish photo ID (national ID/driving license). If you don’t have a valid photo ID you need to bring someone to certify your identity when applying for the passport, including a newly taken passport photo. This person must have a valid passport/photo ID. More information about valid photo ID here.
- If your passport has been lost/stolen you need to report this to the Police in Ghana and bring the police report. A form describing the events of the loss will be filled by at the time of application. The lost/stolen passport will be invalidated by the Embassy in Abuja.
- Bring a copy of booked tickets or information on which route will be taken (country of transit will be noted in the passport).
- The application fee is to be paid ahead of the application.
Bring the receipt of payment to the application date. Information on actual fees and how they are paid will be given by the Honorary consulate when you book the appointment.
