Passport application in Rome

To apply for a Swedish passport or national ID-card at the Embassy of Sweden in Rome you need to visit the Embassy personally. It is not possible to apply for an ordinary passport or national ID-card at a Consulate.

Visiting hours regarding passport applications are avalible only after booked appointment on Monday 13:30-15:30 and Friday 11:00- 13:00 (after 1st of March, Monday 14:00-16:00 and THursday 11:00 - 13:00), you book your appointment through the link below.

At the moment, the Embassy in Rome, has longer waiting times than usually regarding passport- and ID-card applications. If you are prevented from coming to your booked time, it is mandatory to cancel the appointment in order to give another person the opportunity to book your appointment.

If no available appointments are shown, it means that we are fully booked. The Embassy does not have a stand-by list for passport applications outside the reservation system. 

Before the visit

Please note that:

  • the application form must be completly filled in at the time for your appointment at the Embassy;
  • before the visit, please check that you have registered the correct information about you in the Swedish civil registry (Skatteverket)

After the visit

When the Embassy recieve the passport, an automatic e-mail will be sent to you from the Police in Sweden.

Collecting the document

Passports and national ID-cards must be collected in person, passport issued to minors can be collectad by the parents or leaga guardian. The Embassy is open for collecting new issued passports and ID-card whithout appointment on Mondays between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and on Thursdays between 11:00 and 13:00. Do not forget to bring your old passport or ID-card.

If you have applied for the passport or ID-card at the Police in Sweden, or if you collect your passport or ID-card at a Conulat in Italy, an additional delivery fee is requested.

Collecting the passport at a Consulate in Italy

During the passport application at the Embassy it is possible to ask to collect the new issued document at some of our Consulates in Italy. When the Embassy recive the document a notification from the Police in Sweden will be sent to you by e-mail, you than have to calculate extra time for delivery of the passport from the Embassy to the Consulate. Contact the Consulate to make sure that the passport has arrived and to book an appointment to collect your document. If you applied for a passport or ID-card in Sweden, or at another foreign authority, and want to collect the passport at a Consulate, you inform the Embassy by sending e-mail, after the notification from the Police in Sweden. Delivery fee and postal costs are added.

You need to bring your old passport or ID-card and a valid ID document when you collect the new document.

Collecting passport or ID-card to minors

For minors under the age of 18, the passport or national ID-card must be collected by a guardian who identifies himself with a valid ID document. Persons who has turned 15 can pick up their document themselves in the case that the consent of the guardian has been noted in the passport application. Eventually previous passport or ID-card must always be shown when you collect the new one.
