Do you need a new Swedish passport / national ID-card?

To apply for a Swedish passport or National ID-card please note that you have to book an appointment and come in person to the Embassy since you will be photographed and finger prints as well as a digital signature will be taken. You also have to collect the passport in person, however, parents, one or both, can collect it for their children under 18 years.

We only accept bank card as payment. The payment is made when you visit the embassy. Information about payment and fees

- When applying for a new passport or national identity card, you have to be able to show your identity. Bring your previous passport/ID-card and if these are not valid, you should present another valid ID. 

You shall bring completed application forms. See below.

- Complete and print the form "Verification of Swedish Citizenship".
Note that it is important that the application form has been completely filled out when you arrive at the Embassy. If there is something in the application form that you do not understand, please ask someone for help before coming to your booked appointment.

- If the applicant is a child (under 18 years). The passport consent form needs to be signed by both guardians and witnessed by two persons living in the same country as the parents.

- If you have never lived in Sweden, you need to bring a birth certificate containing the names of both your parents.

- If your passport has been lost/stolen we need a police report. The lost/stolen passport will then be invalidated by the Embassy.

- Expired ID document? If you do not have a valid ID document, you must bring a close relative with you who can confirm your identity. This person must be able to present a valid ID. You must also bring a passport photo with you.

- It can take up to 4 weeks before the new travel document/s can be picked up at the Embassy. If you applied somewhere else you will have to pay for a delivery fee. You can also collect the document at the Swedish Honorary Consulate in Cluj-Napoca. If so, you will  also have to pay for a delivery fee.
