Development cooperation

The overall goal of the Swedish reform work in Albania is to assist with the reforms that the country needs to implement in order to eventually gain membership in the EU. Sweden has been a donor to Albania since 1998. Sweden's development cooperation with Albania is governed by the Government's strategy for reform cooperation with the Western Balkans and Turkey 2021-2027.

Sweden's development cooperation with Albania is governed by the Government's strategy for reform cooperation with the Western Balkans and Turkey 2021-2027. The strategy's four thematic focus areas for the Western Balkans are:

  • Human rights, democracy, the rule of law and gender equality
  • Peaceful and inclusive societies
  • Environmentally and climate-sustainable development and sustainable use of natural resources
  • Inclusive economic development

In addition to Sida, the Swedish Institute and the Folke Bernadotte Academy, among others, are also implementing the strategy.

More information about Sweden's development cooperation with Albania is also available on Sida's website
