Applying for a residence permit to study in Sweden

If you are going to study in Sweden for longer than three months, you must have a residence permit. If you will be studying for less than three months, you may need a visa instead.

To acquire a residence permit to study in Sweden, you must generally fulfill the following criteria: have been admitted to full-time studies in Sweden, have the means to support yourself financially, and have a passport. According to Swedish Law your residence permit application should be finalized before entering Sweden. When applying online you are given clear instructions about how to fill in your application and what you should send with the application. This makes it easier for you to send in a complete application and increases your chances of a quick decision. You can find all the information you need at the Swedish Migration Agency’s website.

If you are going to visit Sweden for studies or research for up to 1 year, and will not be enrolled at the Swedish educational institute, then you can apply for a visitor's permit for studies or research (exchange doctoral student).

If you are not able to apply online, you can submit the application documents in original at a Swedish Mission in the People´s Republic of China.
