Moving to someone in Sweden

If you are a non-EU citizen who wants to move to someone in Sweden, you require a residence permit.

Applications for residence permits for Sweden are processed by the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden. If you are a non-EU citizen who wants to apply for a residence permit to move to someone in Sweden, your application can be submitted online through the Swedish Migration Agency’s website.

In order to obtain a residence permit as a family member to someone in Sweden, the person the applicant wants to move to needs to be residing in Sweden as a general rule. A family member of a Swedish citizen who lives abroad and is planning to move back to Sweden, may in some cases also be granted a residence permit.

If you are granted a residence permit to move to someone in Sweden and you are over 16 years of age, you will also be granted a work permit for Sweden which is valid for the same period as the residence permit.
