How to receive your decision and residence permit card

Once an application for a residence permit has been decided the decision is usually sent to the reference person/employer in Sweden if authorized by you.

Collect a decision

Decision can be collected from the Embassy in Addis Ababa.

Collect a residence permit card

The Embassy in Addis Ababa will contact the applicant once the card has arrived in order to make an appointment to collect it.

Power of attorney

If the card or the decision cannot be collected in person, a third person with a power of attorney can collect it on the applicant’s behalf. An original signed power of attorney must be written in English appointing someone else to collect the decision/residence card on their behalf. A copy of the applicant’s and the representative’s ID or passport must be attached to the power of attorney. The representative in Sweden with a power of attorney can also receive the decision or card at the Migration agency.

Power of Attorney.

Order a card

Once the case has been settled by the Swedish Migration Agency and the applicant has submitted biometrics, it normally takes four weeks for the card to reach the Embassy. It is therefore not recommended for you to purchase any tickets before you receive your card.

Once you have been granted a residence permit in Sweden a card must be issued before your arrival to Sweden. The card is ordered automatically at the time off approval if you have been photographed and fingerprinted. If you have not been photographed and fingerprinted, you need an appointment to visit the Embassy.

A residence permit card is only proof of permission to reside in Sweden. It cannot be used as ID-card or travel document.
