If you are married, you will need the following:
- The documents required for all applicants (see the page Required documents)
- A document proving that the marriage is registered in Sweden (extract from the population register, i.e. personbevis)
- International marriage certificate, certified with apostille, issued by the local authorities
- If possible: the national registration certificate, a joint rental contract, or a proof of a joint real estate purchase, or other documents that show that you lived together (for people who lived in another country than Sweden)
- Although it is not required, we recommend you to attach even the evidence that you have maintained regular contact with your partner and/or that you have met in person. This means that you can attach mutual photos from different periods, screenshots of your internet correspondence, phone records, airline tickets, etc. These documents should be submitted in PDF or JPG format to your application. Alternatively, you can bring the photos in paper form to your interview at the Embassy, or show the conversations in your cell phone.
If you got married in Sweden:
- Verify the extract from the population register with apostille at Notary Public in Sweden
- Translate the extract from the population register to Serbian using the official interpreter
- Register the marriage at the Serbian and Montenegrin authorities with the help of the extract from the population register and its translation
- Obtain the international marriage certificate from the authorities in the home country
- Verify the international marriage certificate with apostille at the municipal court
Please take into account that it is no longer possible to verify the marriage certificate at the Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade.
If you got married in Serbia or Montenegro:
- Population registration office in the municipality where you got married shall issue an international marriage certificate
- Verify the international marriage certificate with apostille at the municipal court
- Register the marriage in Sweden, at the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket).
- The Swedish Tax Agency shall issue your partner's extract from the population register with the details of his/her marital status
It is important that you register the marriage in Sweden and Serbia / Montenegro before you apply for a residence and work permit.
