Welcome to the Embassy of Sweden in Tirana, Albania!

The Embassy of Sweden in Tirana opened in 2010; however, Sweden has been engaged in Albania since 2001 through development cooperation. The relationship between Sweden and Albania has since then developed and diversified. One of the most important objectives of the embassy is to be a partner to Albania in its work to prepare for membership of the European Union (EU). The embassy’s focus areas are development cooperation, political reporting, and promotion of Sweden as well as the relations between Swedish and Albanian companies.

The Swedish development cooperation program is providing support within the following thematic areas:

  • Human rights, democracy, the rule of law, and gender equality;
  • Peaceful and inclusive societies;
  • Environmentally and climate-resilient sustainable development and sustainable use of natural resources;
  • Inclusive economic development.

The total Swedish development aid to Albania amounts to approximately 15 million euros annually.
