Midsummer in Sweden

On June 21, Midsummer is celebrated in Sweden to mark the brightest time of the year. The feast has been celebrated for many hundred years. The celebration consists of dressing a midsummer bar in flowers and then dancing around it in the ring. It is common for women to have a wreath of flowers in their hair. A midsummer lunch often consists of pickled herring, fresh potatoes with dill, sour cream and chives. For dessert, this summer's first strawberries are served with fresh whipped cream.
