Important information from the visa and migration section

In response to the European Council and the European Commission’s call for travel restrictions, the Swedish government decided on 17 March to temporarily stop non-essential travel to Sweden so as to mitigate the effects of the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus and to reduce the spread of the disease.

The decision takes effect on 19 March and will initially apply for 30 days. This is an exceptional measure that will not apply for longer than necessary.

The entry ban applies to all foreign citizens attempting to enter Sweden from a country outside the EU or Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

All travel to Sweden will not be stopped. The entry ban does not apply to Swedish citizens or people with residence permits or right of residence in Sweden. Nor will the entry ban apply to people who have particularly important grounds for travelling to Sweden.

For questions about the concrete application of the ban, call the Swedish police at +46 77 114 14 00 and ask to be connected to the National Communications Department.

The embassy’s migration section is until further notice closed to the public. Only customers with a booked appointment will be allowed to enter the premises.

We are available by e-mail and during the regular telephone hour 13.00 – 14.00 to answer all visa and migration related questions.

Applications for Schengen visas can be submitted to VFS Global in emergency cases only. The embassy must pre-accept the case before VFS may offer any appointment.

Applications for national visas can be submitted exclusively to the embassy in emergency cases only. The embassy must pre-accept the case by phone before we offer any appointment.
