Inspiration at heart of Sweden Day Celebration held in Cairo with Swedish Companies

The Embassy of Sweden in Cairo celebrated Sweden Day on the 8th of May, with a reception and exhibition in collaboration with more than 20 Swedish companies present in Egypt and more than 2000 invitees. The theme was “Inspiring Sweden” and highlighted Swedish values and innovations.

Both multinational Swedish companies and smaller ones presented their latest innovations, products and services, allowing  guests to experience their offerings firsthand. A startup-corner featured Swedish tech innovations with a strong Egyptian connection.

The Ambassador of Sweden to Egypt, Mr. Jan Thesleff, took the opportunity to highlight the long and historic relationship between the two countries, mentioning the importance of efforts to further connect Swedes and Egyptians to each other.

“Today is about celebrating the strong Swedish-Egyptian ties that already exist, as well as looking towards the future and how we can further deepen our relations,” said Ambassador Thesleff. “Egyptians and Swedes are creative and I believe we can inspire one another.”

The evening featured music produced, written or sung by Swedish artists, as Sweden is the world’s number one exporter of chart music relative to its GDP. Famous Swedish artists include ABBA, Roxette and the late Avicii. ABBA is back in world headlines after recently  announcing new music for the first time in 35 years.

Sweden Day 2018 was organized in collaboration with the following Swedish companies: ABB, Baxter, Electrolux, Ericsson, Gamma Knife, IKEA, Nordic Water, Oriflame, Scania, Tetra Pak, Volvo Cars, Volvo Buses, Trucks and Construction Equipment, Absolut, Atlas Copco, Blueair, Newstag, Novelari, SKF and the Swedish startups Elprices, FunRock and Kitab Sawti.
