Renewal of passports for adults

The embassy receives passport applications on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. Below is information regarding the application process.

You book your appointment online (link below). When selecting the number of applicants, you must select 1, otherwise you will not see any time slots. Fill in names and details and then book more time slots if you are more people applying together.

For a person who has reached the age of 18 and previously had a Swedish passport, the following is required:

• Apply in person at the embassy in Baghdad.
• Current passports must be presented as well as valid photo ID. Note that Iraqi passport is not accepted as proof of identity.
• If you are registered as resident outside of Sweden, a residence permit in the country of residence must be presented. For example, Iraqi ID / passport.
• Passport fee is paid in cash. The embassy does not give change so it is important to bring exact change. The embassy does not accept banknotes older that 2009. FEES
• The form "Information for verification of Swedish citizenship" is filled in for each applicant. All fields must be filled in in advance.

• If the applicant is registered as resident outside of Sweden, a residence permit in the country of residence must be presented. For example, Iraqi ID / passport.
• Passport fee, exact amount is paid in cash. The embassy does not give change so it is important to bring exact change. The embassy does not accept banknotes older that 2009. FEES
• The form "Uppgifter för prövning av svenskt medborgarskap" is filled in for each applicant. All fields must be filled in in advance.
• The form "Vårdnadshavares medgivande" is filled in by the parents of the child. The passport officer may witness the signature of the parents.

As soon as you find out that you are no longer in possesion of your passport, you must contact the Police in Sweden via phone +46 77 114 14 00 and report the passport lost/stolen.

When the police has cancelled the passport, you can can make an appointment to apply for a passport at the embassy.
Note that you may take some time to get an appointment at the embassy if we are very busy.

Requirements for valid ID documents when applying for a Swedish passport

When you apply for a passport, you must be able to prove your identity.

Your should present
1. a valid Swedish passport or national identity card, or
2. valid Swedish driving license.

Other documentation
If your passport has expired, you can submit other information and relevant documents to the passport administrator for investigation of your identity.

The passport administrator can request various documents to be presented in order to determin your identity.

A valid Iraqi passport is not accepted as proof of identity. It can however be presented as a supporting document to the passport application.

“Personbevis” is not valid as an ID document.

If you have other documents that support your claim of identity, you may present them when applying.

Certification of your identity by another person
You can ask another person to certify your identity. Persons who may submit identity certification are:

- parents,
- adult child or grandchild,
- an adult sibling
- grandparent,
- spouse, (cohabitant or registered partner)

The person who identifies the applicant must be present at the identity check and prove their own identity (with a Swedish valid ID document). The fact that another person has certified the identity is no guarantee that the application will be approved.

Fee and appeal
The passport fee is non-refundable.
The passport officer examines the application after the application has been submitted.
If your application is rejected, you have the opportunity to appeal the decision.
FEES

Applying for a passport for a Swedish Citizen born in Iraq is done in two steps. You will need to visit the Embassy twice for the application and then once to pick up the passport.

Step 1:
Firstly the family visits the Embassy in Baghdad to present the child and the supporting documents needed to request a Co-ordination number from the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket).
Send a message to the embassy to book an appointment. You will be told what documents you need to prepare.

Step 2:
After you have received the Co-ordination number, you book an appointment to complete the passport application at the Embassy. It usually takes about 4-8 weeks for the Tax Agency to issue the co-ordination number.

Residence permit

The Embassy of Sweden to Iraq does not handle matters regarding residence permits.

You must have a work permit in order to work in Sweden.

An entry visa is a permit required by persons wishing to enter Sweden for a temporary visit, for example:

• as a tourist
• on business
• to take part in a conference
• to visit relatives and friends, or
• when passing through in transit

The Embassy of Sweden in Baghdad does not accept visa applications and it does not handle migration issues such as residence & work permit applications, renewal of residence permits or interviews.
