Requirements for valid ID documents when applying for a Swedish passport
When you apply for a passport, you must be able to prove your identity.
Your should present
1. a valid Swedish passport or national identity card, or
2. valid Swedish driving license.
Other documentation
If your passport has expired, you can submit other information and relevant documents to the passport administrator for investigation of your identity.
The passport administrator can request various documents to be presented in order to determin your identity.
A valid Iraqi passport is not accepted as proof of identity. It can however be presented as a supporting document to the passport application.
“Personbevis” is not valid as an ID document.
If you have other documents that support your claim of identity, you may present them when applying.
Certification of your identity by another person
You can ask another person to certify your identity. Persons who may submit identity certification are:
- parents,
- adult child or grandchild,
- an adult sibling
- grandparent,
- spouse, (cohabitant or registered partner)
The person who identifies the applicant must be present at the identity check and prove their own identity (with a Swedish valid ID document). The fact that another person has certified the identity is no guarantee that the application will be approved.
Fee and appeal
The passport fee is non-refundable.
The passport officer examines the application after the application has been submitted.
If your application is rejected, you have the opportunity to appeal the decision.
