New job opening at the Embassy of Sweden: Trade and economy officer (temporary assignment for one year)

The Embassy of Sweden in Tokyo seeks a trade and economy officer, starting date as soon as possible. This is a temporary assignment for one year due to parental leave. Please send your application by 28 October.

The Embassy of Sweden in Tokyo represents Sweden in Japan. The main tasks are to represent and further Swedish interests in Japan, promote good relations between Sweden and Japan and a modern image of Sweden in Japan. We report to the Swedish government offices on a broad range of issues and conduct dialogues with Japanese government authorities, business and civil society. We provide consular services to the public. The Embassy has around 25 staff members.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

As part of the Embassy’s trade and economy team, the trade and economy officer will:

  • Plan and implement business promotion events
  • Manage trade-related issues such as trade barriers, export issues
  • Assist in handling high-level visits related to trade and economy
  • Liaise with government offices, external partners and organizations
  • Contribute to analysis and background information
  • Assist with interpretation/translation when needed

In promoting Sweden, the Embassy works closely together with Business Sweden and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce.

The position is a temporary assignment for one year due to one staff member’s parental leave. It’s a full-time appointment with starting date as soon as possible.

 

Your skills and profile

  • Proven experience in business and/or economic policy work, including strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including fluent English and Japanese
  • Good knowledge of the Japanese governmental system and a broad range of contacts within Japanese society
  • Good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise, as well as teamwork and networking skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks as per the needs of the Embassy

 

What we offer

  • A one year employment contract
  • An individually based salary will be discussed with successful candidates
  • 28 days of paid vacation/year
