Sweden's EU Presidency in 2023

Sweden will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from January 1-June 30, 2023. Sweden is taking over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union during Europe’s most serious security crisis since the Second World War.

“Sweden is taking over the Presidency at a time when the European Union is facing unprecedented challenges. A greener, more secure and freer Europe is the foundation of our priorities”, says Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

The four priorities of the Swedish Presidency:
• Security – unity
• Competitiveness
• Green and energy transition
• Democratic values and the rule of law – our foundation
