Sweden’s Development Cooperation

Since 2012, Sweden has been a strong development partner to Liberia and has implemented several development strategies through the Embassy of Sweden in Monrovia. The current strategy - Strategy for Sweden’s development cooperation with Liberia – runs from 2021 to 2025 and comprises 1.85 billion SEK. It is jointly implemented by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA). FBA is currently phasing out their activities in Liberia.

Sida’s work in Liberia focuses on increased respect for human rights, democratic development, an economy that benefits all people and the fair distribution of resources. Sida also supports programmes and projects in the climate area, for example to ensure that natural resources are used more sustainably and that more people have access to renewable energy.

For more details, please visit Openaid or the website’s of Sida and FBA. Below, you can also find our one-pagers, which provides an info-flash about each of Sweden’s on-going development projects in Liberia. There are currently 39 projects covering thematic areas such as governance, rule of law, Human Rights and Security, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), gender equality, women and youth empowerment, market systems development in agriculture, infrastructure development, media, environment and climate change.

Each one-pager identifies the implementing partner, project location, agreement period, total budget in Swedish Krona, and an overview of each contribution.
