Ambassador Wetterqvist departing Liberia

I have the honour and pleasure to present my compliments, wishing to inform you that I will be departing Liberia on Tuesday 10^th August, 2021, in anticipation of the completion of my term 14^th August as Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Sweden to the Republic of Liberia.

It has been a challenging and rewarding four years in this beautiful country, with its youthful and aspirational population and new administration under H.E. President Weah. I see the country moving forward, maybe not with big strides, but certainly with many, many small. The trend is clear; maybe the many small steps engaging a larger number of people are more important for Liberia’s future and will engender more sustainability.

It has been an exciting journey working alongside all of you in your various capacities. I have learnt a lot, and used almost everything I have ever studied, read or picked up in some other manner in my previous life.

Allow me therefore to convey my deepest appreciation to each and every one of you, and colleagues in your missions, organisations or around you, for affording me the opportunity to work closely with you during my tenure, both at official and private levels.

The loss of my husband Casper to Covid earlier this year, showed me the extent of the capacity to allow space for grief and show compassion that permeates this society. Allow me to also express my sincere thank you for all the support shown to me and by extension to my grown-up children during these difficult months.

Sweden has indeed benefitted from the bilateral and multilateral relationships that we have all developed. I leave with fond memories of Liberian and international friends and four both rewarding and challenging years.

On behalf of my family, we wish you all the very best, as we look forward to reconnecting again sometime/somewhere in the future.
