Sweden increases its support to Liberia

The Swedish Government has decided on a new strategy for the Swedish development cooperation with Liberia for the period 2021-2025. The new strategy comes with 40 percent increased funding in comparison with the previous period.

In total 1 800 000 000 SEK (approx. 210 million USD) is set aside to support Liberia’s efforts to reduce poverty; foster democracy and peace, strengthen the respect for human rights, increase gender equality, create jobs, combat climate change and preserve Liberia’s environment.

“The new strategy confirms Sweden’s commitment to being a critical and long-term partner to Liberia and reaffirms our support to the Government’s ambitions as expressed in the Pro Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development” says H. E. Ingrid Wetterqvist, Swedish Ambassador to Liberia.

The new strategy will be implemented in close collaboration with the Liberian Government and its agencies, with the UN family, with the Liberian civil society, the private sector, and other relevant actors.

A press breifing with the Ambassador and Head of Development Cooperation was held online 1 March, the video is available on Facebook.
