Chisinau Pride Month Joint Statement 2024

Chisinau, June 10, 2024 – June is Pride Month, a time to recognize contributions of the vibrant LGBTQI+ community worldwide, assess progress and challenges in the ongoing struggle for human rights, and renew our commitment to the inclusion, participation, and protection of all people irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This month – and every other month of the year – we stand in solidarity with LGBTQI+ persons in the Republic of Moldova and around the world.

Together, we reaffirm that LGBTQI+ rights are human rights. As stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in December 2023, everyone is entitled to all human rights -- including the right to peaceful assembly, the right to freedom of association, the right to freedom of expression, and the right to equal protection under the law. As stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in December 2023, everyone is entitled to all human rights -- including the right to peaceful assembly, the right to freedom of association, the right to freedom of expression, and the right to equal protection under the law.

Jointly we have made significant strides in ensuring full and equal human rights for LGBTQI+ persons, and we will continue to advance lasting change by working together.  As recognized in UN Moldova granting the 2023 award for Outstanding Human Rights Achievement to Angela Frolov of GENDERDOC-M, the LGBTQI+ community in Moldova has seen great progress – and still faces significant challenges.  We are collectively committed to working with our partners in the Republic of Moldova and around the world to advance human rights and equality for all.
