Ambassaodor Marie Andersson de Frutos gave an opening speech at the 1st National Conference on Women and Peace, that occurred from the 21st to the 23rd August in Beira.
Accompanying her was a member of the Swedish Women Mediation Network Ambassador Lena Sundh, Colombian experts on women’s involvement in peace processes Ms.Diana Pajoy and Ms. Esther Zabala. The conference was attended by Mrs. Graça Machel, the Vice-minister of state administration Albano Macie and 200 participants from all the provinces of Mozambique.
As the first country in the world with a feminist foreign policy, Sweden is a partner of the movement committed to work to increase women's influence and contributions to peace. The conference was organized by the Women and Peace Movement to promote the participation of women and their influence in building peace and national reconciliation for social cohesion in Mozambique.
The conference ended with the production of an Agenda and Declaration of the movement. The event benefited from the funding Sweden provides to the UN’s program Rapariga Biz with a total amount of USD 13 million.
