Entry into force of the Prespa Agreement

With the entry into force of the Prespa Agreement, the Republic of Macedonia is henceforth known as the Republic of North Macedonia and as Severna Makedonija (Република Северна Македонија), Voria Macedonia (Βόρεια Μακεδονία) and Republika e Maqedonisë së Veriut in Macedonian, Greek and Albanian.

On 14 February 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented three notes verbales: one note from the Permanent Mission to the UN Protocol; one from the Permanent Mission to all UN member states and observer states; and lastly one from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to remaining international, multilateral and regional organisations, therewith informing them of the changes that have taken place.

In response to this official request, Sweden will henceforth adopt and use the name and terminologies referred to in Article 1 (3) of the Prespa Agreement and refer to the Republic of Macedonia as the Republic of North Macedonia, with the short version North Macedonia.
