Holocaust Remembrance Day

On 27 January every year the international Remembrance Day for the victims of the holocaust is marked. This date highlights the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp by the Soviet Red Army troops.

In November of 2005 the date was officially proclaimed as the official international Remembrance Day by the United Nations and has since then been the date of remembrance all over the world.

In Sweden, the Living History Forum, which is a governmental national forum for promotion of democracy, tolerance and human rights, has since 2003 purposefully informed and spread awareness about this day through different seminars and ceremonies with the purpose of honoring the victims of the holocaust.

The Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade would like to encourage everyone to take a minute and remember this day which marked the end of the horrible crimes committed at Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
