EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement was passed by the European Council

On November 9 the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement was passed by the European Council which, as of 21 November, now has entered into force.

In a rare and incredibly timely flux, the Embassy together with SwedCham hosted a seminar on the topic “The EU-Singapore FTA – What’s in it for Swedish Business?” on the same day. The Embassy was honored to present a great lineup of speakers, including Deborah Elms CEO of Asian Trade Centre, Jean Pierre De Meerleer Sánchez from the EU delegation, Ti Hwei How, Country President of Astra Zeneca, our colleagues from the MFA Trade Dep. Magnus Rydén and Ola Brohman, Oscar Wåglund Söderström from the National Board of Trade and of course Trade Commissioner Emil Akander.

During their time in Singapore, our colleagues from Sweden got to meet scholars and trade experts from the National University of Singapore, Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore) and ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute (ISEAS). They also got to attend the Asia House Global Trade Dialogue and a gala dinner to celebrate the EU-Singapore FTA with, among many others, EU commissioner Phil Hogan and Minister S Iswaran.
