Welcome to the Embassy of Sweden in Damascus, Syria

Sweden established diplomatic relations with Syria shorty after independence in 1946. Since 1974, Sweden has an Embassy in Damascus and Syria opened an Embassy in Stockholm in 2001.

Due to the deteriorated security situation in Syria, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs decided in 2012 to scale down the work and staffing of the Embassy of Sweden in Damascus.

Given the developments in Syria, the Embassy of Sweden in Damascus is not continuously staffed, and the work of the Embassy is primarily managed out of Beirut.
