The Silent Pandemic: No Time To Wait

Art exhibition during the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

On Monday 15 November, the Swedish and UK Missions to the UN in Geneva pre-opened the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week by unveiling a new art exhibition at the UN Palace in Geneva on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The exhibition was opened by the Director-General of the UN Office in Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and the Permanent Representatives of Sweden and UK to the UN in Geneva, Anna Jardfelt and Simon Manley.

The Art Exhibition The Silent Pandemic; No Time to Wait, by the award-winning artist Wang Xulin from Canada, illustrates in a graphic cartoon series one of the greatest public health threats facing the world. The cartoon shows  the realistic scenario until 2050 where growing resistance to antimicrobial drugs due to misuse and overuse, leads to a world without access to effective treatment for the most common infections, thus becoming life-threatening.

The exhibition will be displayed at the UN Palace in Geneva during the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week - 18 - 24 November 2021.
