42nd session of the UPR Working Group - Review of Guatemala

Recommendations by Sweden delivered by Mr. Fredrik Nivaeus, Minister Counsellor, Deputy Permanent Representative.

Mr. Vice President,

Sweden welcomes the progress made regarding transitional justice. However, it is of utmost importance that victims receive the reparation established in their verdicts. We remain concerned by the continued negative development regarding the rule of law, women’s and girls’ enjoyment of human rights, as well as freedom of expression and freedom of the press.

Sweden would like to make the following recommendations:

1. Strengthen the rule of law, and support and respect judicial independence by protecting the independence and safety of the country’s judges and prosecutors.

2. Promote women’s and girls’ access to SRHR, including the prevention of child pregnancies, by providing access to comprehensive sexuality education, and integral sexual and reproductive health services for teenagers.

Thank you.
