Resumed 43rd session of the Human Rights Council. Statement delivered by Ambassador Veronika Bard.
Madam President,
Let me begin by thanking the High Commissioner for her report.
Sweden highly values the work of the OHCHR in providing technical assistance and capacity building. We would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate our call upon all States to fully cooperate with the Office.
We would like to reaffirm our strong support to the OHCHR for its strong commitment to respond to increasing requests for technical assistance and capacity building. The OHCHR's active cooperation and dialogue with States, regional organizations and other stakeholders has proven to be indispensable in promoting the respect, protection and fulfilment of human rights around the world.
We have now during the pandemic seen a surge of interim measures limiting the enjoyment of human rights, which in turn also has an effect on democracy and the rule of law. The OHCHR's role in providing guidance to states but also monitoring the situation is invaluable.
