Sweden welcomes Portugal’s strong commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights, including efforts to improve the conditions in prisons. However, Sweden would like to make the following recommendations.

1. Remove all exceptions to the minimum age of marriage at 18 in Article 1601 in the Portuguese Civil Code in order to ensure that forced and early marriages are prevented. 
2. Ensure that access to abortion is upheld throughout the country.
3. Counter discrimination and improve integration of persons belonging to the Roma community, including by improving access to housing, education, healthcare and employment.
