#GIRLSTAKEOVER 2022

The global #GirlsTakeover is a call to action for radical social and political change to tear down barriers of discrimination and prejudice that continue to hold girls back. In Zambia on International Day of the Girl Child, 17-year-old Mapalo Chasaya walked the shoes of the Swedish Ambassador to Zambia.

Through the #GirlsTakeover on on International Day of the Girl Child, girls occupy spaces where they are rarely seen or heard, making it clear they have the right to be there without being silenced or ignored.

The Embassy of Sweden in Lusaka teamed up with Plan International Zambia in commemorating the International Day of the Girl by participating in the initiative #GirlsTakeOver, a day when young girls ‘take over’ the position of a leader. As part of this year’s #GirlsTakeOver, 17 year old Mapalo Chasaya has “taken over” as Swedish Ambassador to Zambia.

When girls get equal opportunities and equal chances in life, they can transform their lives, their communities and the world!
