About us

Diplomatic relations between Sweden and Zimbabwe were established in 1980, which is also the year of Zimbabwe's independence.

The Embassy's mission is to promote relations between Sweden and Zimbabwe in a broad sense. This work includes political dialogue with the Zimbabwean government, political parties and civil society, development cooperation, investment and trade promotion, cultural exchange as well as acting as a representative for Swedish authorities in various matters related to Zimbabwe. The embassy also represents Sweden in Malawi and Mauritius.

Embassy staff includes officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Board for International Development Cooperation (Sida) and local employees, who together make up about 20 people. The embassy offers support to Swedish citizens in consular matters, for example in the event of a consular crisis. Swedish citizens and foreign family members of Swedish citizens who reside in or intend to stay for an extended period of time in Zimbabwe, Malawi or Mauritius are welcome to register on the embassy's list of Swedes in the respective countries. The list is only intended to be used for preparedness purposes.

The embassy is divided into the following sections:

- section for policy, trade and promotion

- section for bilateral development cooperation with Zimbabwe

- section for administration, migration and consular affairs
